Philanthropy stories

At York, we love to celebrate the incredible impact our donors make.

In 2022 Emeritus Professor Deborah Smith, York’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research from 2014-2020, along with other generous donors, offered support to inspiring PhD student Estelle Praet, to enable vital research to continue on plastic pollution in the Galapagos Islands. In this special video we bring together Deborah and Estelle to discuss the difference their gift has made.

Philanthropy is like a catalyst: it's sowing a seed that then grows into something much bigger because of the help we, and York, have enabled
