The entry requirements below are provided for guidance only. The acceptance rate may vary by course. Other post-school qualifications may also be considered for entry to York on a case-by-case basis.

US curriculum
We understand US curriculum schools are varied in their course offerings and testing requirements. Therefore we will consider combinations of qualifications which demonstrate a high level of academic ability.
We will consider the following scores depending on course applied for:

You can meet our entry requirements in the following ways:
1. Three subjects from a combination of Category 1 qualifications
Examples:
- 5,5,4 in three AP tests
- 5,4 in two AP tests plus A in one Dual Enrolment class
- A,A,B in three Dual Enrolment courses
2. Two subjects from Category 1 qualifications plus one further subject/qualification from Category 2
Examples:
- 5,4 in two AP tests plus A in grade 12 Honors class
- 5 in one AP test plus B in one Dual Enrolment class plus 28 in ACT composite score
- A, A+ in two Dual Enrolment classes plus SAT score of 1290 (min 620 Maths, 650 ERW)
3. If your school does not offer Advanced Placement curriculum or Dual Enrolment classes
We will consider students who are completing the US High School Diploma with Honors classes (or a combination of two Honors classes plus one ACT/ SAT score) on a case-by-case basis. Your school will need to confirm that it does not offer AP classes, and you will need to have a minimum overall GPA of 3.2
4. If you’re studying for an Associate or Bachelor Degree
We will accept a minimum of 1 year’s study with a GPA of 3.0 - 4.0, depending on the course you are applying to. You may be required to take classes in essential subjects.

Postgraduate entry requirements
Postgraduate taught courses
For a postgraduate taught course such as a Masters, you would normally need a Bachelors degree from a recognised institution. Typically, you'll need at least the equivalent of a UK lower second class honours degree (2:2). Actual requirements will vary by course.
- A score of 3.2 out of 4.0 is considered comparable to a UK 2:1
- A score of 2.8 out of 4.0 is considered comparable to a UK 2:2
Postgraduate research courses
For a research degree, such as an MPhil or a PhD, you would normally need a Bachelors degree plus either a Masters degree in a relevant subject or some experience of conducting research.

Undergraduate English language requirements
The USA is a majority English-speaking country, as specified by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Therefore, if you are a USA national, or you have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in the USA, you do not need to provide evidence of your English language abilities.
