The entry requirements below are provided for guidance only. The acceptance rate may vary by course. Other post-school qualifications may also be considered for entry to York on a case-by-case basis.

Matriculation Certificate
If you are studying the Matriculation Certificate, you will need to achieve between BB at Advanced Level plus BBBB at Intermediate Level to AA at Advanced Level plus AAAA at Intermediate Level.

Postgraduate entry requirements
Postgraduate taught courses
For a postgraduate taught course such as a Masters, you would normally need a Bachelors degree from a recognised institution. Typically you'll need at least the equivalent of a UK lower second class honours degree (2:2). Actual requirements will vary by course. The score you will need depends on which university you have attended and which subject you are applying to.
- Upper Second Class Honours is considered comparable to a UK 2:1
- Lower Second Class Honours is considered comparable to a UK 2:2
Postgraduate research courses
For a research degree, such as an MPhil or a PhD, you would normally need a Bachelors degree plus either a Masters degree in a relevant subject or some experience of conducting research.

Malta is a majority English-speaking country, as specified by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Therefore, if you are a Maltese national, or you have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in Malta, you do not need to provide evidence of your English language abilities.
