Refunds for disability-related costs
If you have a disability, you may be entitled to a partial refund towards your upfront costs.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible to apply for a refund, you must be:
- a UK home undergraduate student
- be in receipt of means-tested Student Finance support and have an assessed residual household income of £42,875 or less, and
- have less than £3,000 in savings.

For postgraduate and international students who require financial assistance with disability-related costs, please complete an application via the Student Support Fund. Students must also meet the criteria for the Student Support Fund in order to be eligible for an award.

What costs can be reclaimed?
Eligible students can claim a refund of their upfront costs, up to a maximum of £475, for the following diagnostic tests:
- Specific Learning Disability (SpLD)
- ADHD
- Autism
Eligible students who require and purchase specialist IT equipment through Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) can claim a refund for up to a maximum £200 of their upfront cost.
How to apply
To apply for a refund of your disability-related costs, you can apply online via the Student Support Fund application below.
As an undergraduate home student, you will be asked at the beginning of the form if your application is related to a disability-related cost refund. If so, you will be redirected to the disability-related costs section of the form.
Supporting evidence
You'll need to submit supporting evidence with your application. We will need:
- The latest full month’s bank/building society statements for every account in your name (including savings, overseas, empty/unused accounts).
- A copy of your invoice showing the cost and date of the test, OR a copy of your receipt to confirm that you have paid the £200 DSA costs.
- Your Student Finance award letter.

After you've applied
It can take up to four weeks for an assessment to be completed from when we receive your application and all supporting evidence.
