The Elizabeth Salter Fund was created in memory of Professor Elizabeth Salter (1925-1980), one of the founders of the Centre for Medieval Studies. It supports research and career development of postgraduate students at the Centre for Medieval Studies in the form of grants to support all or part of the costs of travel to archaeological or historic sites, archives, libraries and museums to conduct research on unique holdings; to support the purchase of photographs or microfilms in lieu of travel; or to support travel to and registration fees for conferences at which the student will give a paper. Grants are awarded in the first instance to research students, and if funds remain toward the end of the year they are also sometimes awarded to MA students who have a special need to conduct research away from York for their dissertations.
Students will be emailed about the availability of the fund and invited to apply for a bursary in Sem Two of each academic year.
