Join one of the leading linguistics research centres in the UK. You'll have access to specialist facilities and expert academic support, and you'll become a valued member of our research community.
Your research
You'll be able to work on research covering: phonetics and phonology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics (language variation and change) and conversation analysis.
Your project should be an original contribution to knowledge or understanding and should demonstrate mastery of the appropriate research methodology, literature and scholarly apparatus.
As part of your degree, you'll be trained in all relevant research methods by attending research training sessions throughout the year. You'll also have the opportunity to audit lectures and seminars on Masters-level modules that may be of use to you. Your supervisor might also recommend that you join research groups to further bolster your knowledge.
You'll complete a 20,000-25,000 word dissertation, which you'll submit at the end of the course. The examiners may request that you present your findings in an oral exam. You're assessed solely on your final dissertation.
