Department of Economics and Related Studies
Ideas that shape our future.
Our research

We tackle issues that matter on a local and global scale.
Our innovative research spans nearly all areas of economics. We aim to advance our understanding of how market economies operate and develop pioneering solutions for economic and social issues.

As one of the largest economics departments in the UK, we offer diverse, high-quality research and teaching expertise, which complements the vibrant, international perspective of our student community. We aim to challenge and excite our students about economics-a core social science discipline that demands intellectual rigour but in return offers important practical insights into the real world.
Professor Michael Thornton, Head of Department
