Whole cell protein spatial organisation
Context
Photosynthesis has huge potential to provide solutions to future challenges associated with anthropogenic driven climate change. Critical to harnessing this potential is a detailed understanding of how photosynthetic organisms function.
The research
To provide novel insights at an unprecedented level we want to understand the location, interactors and function of every cellular component for a photosynthetic organism. To achieve this, we have developed high-throughput fluorescence protein tagging and affinity purification followed by mass spectrometry methods in cyanobacteria. This technology will allow us to understand photosynthetic changes at a complete cellular level across a broad range of conditions.

Luke Mackinder
Professor Mackinder's research focuses on understanding the molecular basis of carbon fixation in algae and cyanobacteria.
